Planning a trip can be stressful especially if it’s your first time doing it. What are the steps, how to find the best flight, what are you going to need, do you need a travel insurance?
This guide is going to help you to plan your trip step by step. Trips are usually meant for relaxing, enjoyment, adventure, fun. By planning your trip well you can be sure that you'll be able to enjoy your trip without unnecessary headaches.
1. Choose your location
The first step of planning your trip is choosing your destination. Defining which your destination is going to be is very important, it gives you a definite goal. Be more specific as possible. What do you think is easier to plan – a trip to Rome or trip to Italy?
2. Choose the time and the length of your trip
This will depend on a couple of factors, like your schedule. Can you afford to travel whenever you want, or you just have two weeks summer vacation and two weeks winter vacation? Do you want to go during the off-season or in the pick of the season? What is the weather going to be at this time of the year? And how can you make a budget without answering to yourself this questions first? Which takes us to the next step.
3. Research your costs
Okay, you already know where are you going and for how long the next step is to research the costs. First, you have to decide how much you’ll be willing to spend. Are you going to stay in a hostel or luxury hotel? Are you going to moving around by foot or taxi, metro, etc.? How much it cost the accommodation, the transportation, the food, the attractions?
Knowing the costs you can now get to the next step which is actually making a budget.

4. Make a budget
So now you already know the costs and you can make a budget.
If you figure out your trip is going to be $1,000 and four months from now, that means you have to save $250 a month for the next four months. It’s time to start saving some money. For some people this is a really hard thing to do, but here are some tips:
Learn to cook your own meals – Restaurants are great but they are expensive. Starting cooking your meal will save you a lot of money. You can cook larger dinner and get the leftovers for lunch.
Quit parties – Parties are also great but quit them for a while. One Friday night out can cost you more than accommodation for few days. And if you go out every weekend think how much you can save for one month.
Shopping – Do you really need 30 dresses or 15 pears of jeans? No, I don’t think so.
Transportation – How far away is your work from home? Can you walk there? Bike?
Think of the ways you can cut your costs, so you can save more money for traveling.
Tip: Always take with you more money than you think you will spend. You never know what may happen, so be sure you have some extra bucks.

8. Travel insurance
A lot of people think they don’t need an insurance, but that’s really not the right way of thinking. Travel insurance is not something I recommend skipping. I would say it again, you never know what might happen. Travel insurance is not only medical protection, it covers you if your flight is canceled, your camera breaks, you’ve been robbed, etc.

Make sure your documents are in order. Some countries require visas, do your destination require one? This is very important because you don’t want to be turned back home.
Keep all of your documents safe, and also make copies of them.
Plan your activities, what you want to see and do. Make a list with all of the places you want to visit, all the things you want to do and try. This will also help you figure out how much money you will need.
Please, take only what are you going to need. Pack light and leave space for souvenirs or whatever you want to take back home. Traveling with a lot of luggage is so uncomfortable. Stick to the basics, you are not going on a fashion review.
Last but not least, have fun. You spend time planning, saving, booking now is time to relax and enjoy your dream trip.
